What is saree charak?
Charak is a traditional finish where a saree is lightly starched and then pressed or rolled so the fabric becomes stiff and glossy. It’s mostly used for cotton, Kota doria, chanderi, maheshwari and other handloom sarees that look limp after washing.
Which sarees suit charak
- Cotton and handloom sarees
- Kota doria and chanderi cotton
- Linen and cotton-silk blends
Pure silk, georgette and chiffon don’t need starch; they’re better with saree dry cleaning.
Charak or full clean?
If the saree is clean but limp, charak alone (₹69) is enough. If it’s been worn and has stains or sweat marks, it should be cleaned first (₹149) and then finished.
