Silk, georgette, chiffon and cotton
Pure silk and Banarasi sarees are the most sensitive: water leaves rings and can dull the sheen, so they are always dry cleaned. Georgette and chiffon are lighter but snag easily and are cleaned with extra care. Cotton and handloom sarees can often be washed, but many people prefer dry cleaning or charak (starch and polish) to keep them crisp.
Plain vs work sarees
A plain saree is ₹149. Sarees with zari borders, embroidery, sequins or stone work are ₹249, because the work is checked and cleaned more carefully. Very heavy bridal sarees are handled under designer saree cleaning.
Tips before you send a saree
- Tell us about any stains — oil, haldi, lipstick, food — and how old they are
- Remove safety pins and brooches
- Send the matching blouse (₹49) so colours stay consistent
